A Modern, Vintage Celebration at Citizens Ballroom
Opulent in Black & White: Tyler and Michael’s Elegant Wedding at Citizens Ballroom, Near Washington, D.C.
At the end of October, we had the distinct honor of coordinating an unforgettable wedding at Citizens Ballroom in Frederick, Maryland. Just a short drive from Washington, D.C., Citizens Ballroom offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern elegance, making it an ideal choice for couples seeking a sophisticated yet timeless wedding venue.
We want to extend a very special thank you to Anna Lowe Photo and New Pace Weddings for capturing the beautiful moments from this day.
About Citizens Ballroom
Nestled in the heart of Downtown Frederick, Citizens Ballroom stands as a testament to historical grandeur and contemporary sophistication. Originally built in 1908 as a bank, this cornerstone building has been meticulously restored to retain its original splendor while incorporating modern amenities to serve as a premier event space. The venue boasts exquisite details, such as its original bronze doors, soaring 30-foot coffered ceilings, and iconic bank vaults, providing a unique backdrop for any celebration.
Elegance in Black & White
The vision for this wedding was both modern and vintage, with an elegant, black-and-white color scheme with contemporary and personal touches. Citizens Ballroom, with its marble accents and monochromatic palette, was the perfect canvas for this vision.
From the moment guests arrived, the theme was apparent and in true style. The invitation requested that all guests dress in black and white, creating a stunning visual effect that perfectly complemented the venue’s décor. Bespoke ceremony programs and printed dinner menus were the perfect finishing touches to accompany the design.
Wedding Cake Disco & Champagne Pour
What is a retro-themed wedding without disco balls? After dinner, the bride and groom cut their custom disco-ball wedding cake, designed by D.C.’s own Buttercream Bakery. Following their cake cutting, the couple opened the dance floor with a vintage-style champagne tower pour.
Planning a Private Last Dance
One of the most magical moments of the evening was the private last dance, a special touch that was planned strategically. Getting guests to cooperate for a grand exit can be challenging, especially when they are enjoying themselves. To overcome this, we informed the group that the bride and groom wanted to share a private last dance, which encouraged everyone to exit the ballroom promptly. As the guests gathered outside with sparklers in hand, the couple enjoyed a final, intimate dance alone in the beautifully decorated ballroom. This moment was not only romantic but also a poignant close to their perfect day.
